I’ve Missed You

image

I have had a sick baby on my hands for over a week. That means not much gets done around the house, let alone this blog. It is a miracle to have the dishes washed and food on the table. Speaking of food, my juicing was put on hold for a handful of days because of it. Like I have said before, it is crazy how your body craves a refreshing cup of ice, fruit, and veggies.

To get myself back into juicing mode I made sure to add an orange and some blackberries, just because those are some of my favorite things to juice. Oranges are so refreshing and I know I shouldn’t juice them so much since they are loaded with sugar but, they are just too delicious.

So here I am, hopefully back to juicing and back to blogging a few things I’ve been up to besides taking care of a sick toddler. Talk to you soon!

Orange You Glad I Didn’t Say Banana

This juicing thing has started to grow on me. It is so refreshing and surprisingly filling. I find myself wanting to juice more often and days that I haven’t juiced, I feel like I am missing out. Not only has juicing become a new healthy change in our eating, but I have also tried to load each meal with more veggies than meat. You’d be surprised at how quickly your body gets used to healthier eating. I find that when I eat greasy, fried foods it messes up my insides and I feel miserable. The bloating, the gas, the icky sluggish feeling I get…it’s bad. One of these days I would like to give it up completely.

So back to my juice of the day, here we have a medley of carrots, kale, oranges, and blueberries. We bought a huge bag of oranges and carrots, so I have been adding both to my juice concoctions lately. This particular juice was delicious and really pretty as it was coming out of the spout.

Pretty little rainbow of flavors.

Of course my juice isn’t complete without Star Wars.

Here is the simple combination of the day which makes about 2 cups of juice:

2 Oranges

3 Medium Carrots

3 Large Kale Stems

A Girl Sized Handful of Blueberries (that one is for you dad)

Cheers to another successful juice!

Note: You should never juice a banana in your juice machine. If you want banana, use the blender to add it to the juice.

Brown Juice

image

When I first started juicing, I juiced mostly fruits. I found that I couldn’t really go wrong with the sweet juicy stuff. Lately, I have decided to increase my veggie intake and get rid of some fruits. This time around resulted in some brown juice.

[kale, cucumber, sweet potato, apple and blueberries]

It looked more like an iced coffee drink than a veggie/fruit juice (if only it tasted like that too). But to be fair, the juice was actually pretty good. Maybe one of these days I will attempt a veggie only juice.

The Revin

Today was my first time to make a green juice. Thankfully I was able to get a juice recipe from my sister and brother-in-law.

It looks absolutely disgusting but I must say it is quite delicious.

I have decided to call this juice concoction The Revin, which is the Hollywood name combo I would give my sister and brother-in-law. Before we jump to the recipe, I need to mention a few things. This recipe is good enough for one person. Also, I have decided that I am not a big fan of celery, so for those celery haters out there, I would suggest that you either leave it out or only add half a celery stick.

The Revin

1 large kale leaf

1 medium carrot

1 celery stick – or just eliminate and substitute with another kale leaf or carrot

1 Gala apple

1 handful of green grapes – about 1/2 cup

1/4  slice of a small lime

1/4 inch of ginger

1/2 a piece of a pineapple ring

Cheers to my first green juice!

He tried it but decided to stick with his watermelon, peach, grape bowl instead.

Good ol’ Jack

Juicing. I guess this is the cool new thing that everyone is doing these days, including myself. A family member of mine had an unused juicer lying around and graciously gave it me for free! I love a good hand-me-down.

I had been hearing a lot about this juicing stuff and thought, hey! why not give it a try. So I bought a bunch of fruits and veggies and made up my own little concoction. I was told to should start off with the sweeter stuff and then work my way up to the greens, since they bring about a whole different flavor that some may have to acquire a taste for.

My goal is to eat a big ol’ breakfast, juice for lunch and then eat some dinner. We’ll see how this plays out.

But before I leave, here is my sweet concoction recipe…

1 Pear

1 Apple

2 Carrots (large)

5 Strawberries

1/4 Grapefruit (small)

Enjoy!
